The Best Dog Names- and-dogs that live the longest.
Just a couple of the things to consider when thinking of getting a dog.
Having recently decided the time was now right to have another addition to our family, we welcomed our Cavapoo pup to our home just over 3 months ago now. It has taken us nearly 30 years to actually get another dog after losing our last and only Dog “Susie” our beautiful and loving West Highland white Terrier. They really do become part of your family and the sadness when you lose your dog cannot be underestimated, we just couldn’t bring our selves to even think about another, even though we love dogs so much. We almost felt as though we would be betraying our beloved Susie by just going out and buying a replacement. Would you go out and get a new Husband/Wife? Well yes people do given time and you can its not a statement your making saying you didn’t care or love or anything like that you just have to move on and enjoy a new chapter in your life.
Well having finally decided we were going to take the plunge, well it felt a bit like that to be fair. We thought what do we expect, want or need from a dog. The first thing was which breed we contemplated Italian breeds of dog as we love everything about Italy then came across an Italian greyhound chihuahua mix article, and thought that might be an option as one of the criteria was small poops to pick up so that also ruled out a Cane Corso (big mastiff type dog) also have you seen the price of a Cane Corso!
The other aspect was the best dog names which we felt would be easy to pick, no it isn’t or wasn’t the names list we compiled was so varied we confused ourselves even more so we decided let’s pick from categories of names, you know like film stars or pop stars or food or lost relatives etc. Then we had more doubts about how we would cope with losing another dog as we didn’t do so well the last time so we added to our last selection, dogs that live the longest. I don’t if the thinking was that the dog would outlive us and we wouldn't have to go through the heartache again(if it did it wasn’t good news for us just into our 50s) but maybe it would be more excepting if a dog lived a long life.
Then the next consideration was my ability to be allergic to everything, so looking at the list of hypoallergenic dogs was the next column on the ever-growing list to what we thought would be a simple choice now we had decided to get another dog. It should have been much simpler than we made it to be fair I feel we did over complicate things but it is important to get the right dog for your own circumstances. We have a neighbour who has a Labrador that barks all day long as it is left alone for 10 hours plus a day and it obviously is stressed and anxious through separation, it never hardly barks when the neighbours at home. Another dog owner in the neighbourhood has a Newfoundland a huge lovely bundle of fun and excitement but not ideal living in a small apartment 2nd floor no lift?
So our choice ended up at a Cavapoo. After seeing a friend who had a friend who had a litter due soon, that was the other aspect trying to find a dog without the crazy prices and that were available, we also had the chance to see both parents which is ideal but appreciate not always possible. Once we had seen our Cavapoo puppy our minds were set in stone we couldn’t ever not have another and couldn’t wait for the day to arrive when we could collect her and bring our new puppy home.
Still undecided on the name we thought we better make our mind up pretty quick as we couldn’t keep saying here little doggie. So, we went back to the Italian theme and searching the internet as everyone does for everything now it seems we came across what we thought was the perfect site in our quest for an Italian dog name. So, we decided after selecting the shortlist of Italian dog names and picking out of the hat, well a pen with eyes closed and which one it landed on and it was …… Flavia so that wasn’t so bad and its easy to call and a bit different from the usual female Italian dog name of Bella which it seems every female dog with a Italian themed name is Bella, we never did have it on on our list to drop the pen on to.
The next aspect now for Flavia was to train her correctly, admittedly with our first dog Susie we didn’t and she had some not so good habits and all our fault. Again look on google and the array of how you should train your dog is endless with lots of contradictions so we ended up looking on the Italian dog names site which had some helpful tips for training and recommendations.
If you decide to get a new dog or old dog there’s lots of options out there from rescue dogs, specialist pedigree dog breeders or now the ever-popular poodle mixed breeds. I must admit if it hadn’t been for my allergies a rescue dog would have been our preferred option. But take your time and consider carefully as dogs deserve to be in the right place to give you the love and joy they can is endless, if nurtured in the right environment. If you have small children think carefully as all dogs have an animal instinct naturally so really, please give thought for the sake of your children. In saying that a dog and child can be a great combination and can really help your child develop a great understanding of how animals should be treated and also teach them how when a living thing relies on you then it has to be a priority in your life to make sure everything is good for your new dog. To grow and develop into the wonderful creature that all Dogs can be, it needs to feel your love and you will receive much more back in return.
Any dog problems you have is down to you and not your dog.
